Acupuncture for Pets

Restoring Balance, Encouraging Healing, Managing Pain.

Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most respected forms of traditional Eastern medicine, used to treat pain, illness, and imbalance in the body. At Cygnus Alternative Veterinary Care, we bring the power of acupuncture to pets, helping them heal naturally, reduce discomfort, and improve overall well-being.

Whether your pet is struggling with chronic pain, mobility issues, organ dysfunction, or stress-related conditions, acupuncture can offer a gentle, effective, and medication-free approach to healing.

Our Acupuncture Service Includes:

A personalized treatment plan, tailored to your pet’s specific condition and needs.
A full-body assessment, using Eastern and Western diagnostics to determine areas of imbalance and needed support.
✔ Traditional dry needling – Fine needles stimulate natural healing and pain relief.
✔ Electroacupuncture – Gentle electrical stimulation enhances the effects of traditional needling.
✔ Aquapuncture – Small injections of saline or vitamin B at acupuncture points for prolonged benefits. May also speed up the process for animals that are reluctant to stay still.
Gentle handling and a calming experience, ensuring your pet is comfortable throughout treatment.

Acupuncture is ideal for pets experiencing:

  • Chronic pain & arthritis – Helps reduce inflammation and improve mobility.
  • Neurological conditions – Aids recovery from nerve damage and spinal issues.
  • Post-surgical recovery – Speeds up healing and relieves discomfort after procedures such as ACL repair.
  • Internal organ dysfunction – Supports kidney, liver, and digestive health.
  • Anxiety & stress – Specific acupoints promote relaxation during the treatment in nervous pets.

Every pet is unique, and so is their acupuncture plan.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does acupuncture work for pets?

Acupuncture stimulates nerves, improves blood circulation, releases endorphins, and encourages natural healing. By targeting specific points on the body, it helps restore balance and helps the body heal itself from all underlying conditions.

Does acupuncture hurt?

Not at all! Most pets barely notice the needles, and some even become so relaxed they fall asleep during treatment. The process is gentle, and we work carefully to ensure your pet’s comfort.

How many treatments will my pet need?

Every pet is different. Typically results are seen after three treatments but some may experience relief after one or two sessions, while chronic conditions may require ongoing care where the frequency drops to once a month or every other month. We will create a customized plan based on your pet’s condition and response to treatment.

Can acupuncture be used with other treatments?

Yes! Acupuncture can be safely combined with Western medicine, herbal treatments, laser therapy, and rehabilitation for a comprehensive approach to healing. For arthritic conditions, we like to combine acupuncture with a complimentary laser session so enhance the effects and speed up the response to treatment.

What should I expect after a session?

Most pets feel calmer and more comfortable right away. Some may have decreased energy the next day to then have a large jump in energy 2 days after their treatment. We’ll provide guidance on what to watch for and when to schedule follow-ups.
